The community for travelling runners!
Why should you run?
Why should you run? This is a very profound question, as running triggers many aspects of our lives: for this reason, the answer could be different for any of us. I found at least 10 reasons that will explain why running is an amazing thing to do. Lace your shoes and let’s get started 🙂
It will keep you fit
This is not a secret: running regularly will train your body to be more efficient, reducing the sense of fatigue. It will also help you being “tired” in the night, promoting a deeper sleep. A healthy lifestyle reduces the risk of contracting many diseases and increasing cardiovascular efficiency. In other words, not only running will help you living longer: it will increase your quality of life!
You can have more food and beverages
Another well-known consequence of running: it burns calories! As a rule of thumb, you will burn your weight in kilograms, by running a kilometer (thanks metric system for this easy heads up 😉 ). This means that an adult whose weight is 80 kg running for 10 km, will be able to eat a pizza (about 800 kcal) as a bonus! And with 2 km more, also a pint of beer is included ;-). In other words, you can use it to lose weight without cutting much on food, or vice versa, eating more without gaining weight! 😉
This is one of my favorite arguments: running is a great excuse to eat and drink well, without gaining weight!
It is a good excuse to travel
This is another of my arguments: there are so many running events worldwide, that running gives a great excuse to buy a flight ticket! It gives the chance of seeing wonderful cities’ landmarks in a different perspective, or natural paths difficult to find by ourselves. Running is great, traveling is amazing, running and traveling is an outstanding experience!
You will join a community of great people
And although you can run and travel alone, you will be in contact with a community of amazing people: the runners! I met extraordinary people in my trips, with amazing stories, good talks, and always very friendly and available. And if you made it to here reading, you should really consider to subscribe here or join the Facebook page to be part also of this community 😉
It will give you a growth mindset
What is a growth mindset? In very non-scientific words, and in opposition with fixed mindset, it describes who believes there is always room for improvement. It does not matter if some degree of failure is expected in the process. It is about rewarding efforts instead of show term rewards, selecting ambitious goals instead of low-hanging fruits. Practicing running suits perfectly with a growth mindset, and it could let you transfer it into other activities: visiting a foreigner country, learning a new language, etc.
It is good for your brain!
Here I am not talking about mindset, endorphins or anything already discussed. There are scientific studies confirming that running supports brain mechanisms helping attention and stress relief, for example. Here you can find an article from the Guardian I found very interesting about this matter.
It is not expensive
OK, the amount of accessories that support running grow with technology, and I probably could not go out anymore without my GPS watch. But in general, running does not require a big budget to start. A good pair of running shoes, tailored to your running style, the right clothing… and a nice running path. An investment that will pay off immediately in endorphins and positive feelings!
A good excuse to have… me time
In our modern world, we are always connected, and the occasions of having time for ourselves are more and more limited. Running will give you “me-time”! Time to think, to relax enjoying the running path, or simply time off from the daily routine. It is actually an underrated great advantage of lacing your shoes and go out!
It is good for sustainability
Carbon dioxide emissions are an hazard and a challenge for the next future. There is nothing as green as just moving without using a car. Running is a sustainable sport by definition! And if you really want (and allow me, should 🙂 ) support this cause, try to walk or bike (or using public transport) instead of using a car, when possible.
A little comment about the running events (marathons or half marathons) we love: I hope they will become more sustainable in the future. Seeing all these plastic bottles or caps thrown away is something with definitely a lot of room for improvement. I hope technology (e.g. polymers quickly biodegradable used as water containers) will come to help.
You can run for a cause
Many running events promote charities and fund raising to support good causes. As participants we can do a lot help this world and charities give tools to make it happen. Running for a greater cause will also be a way to improve your motivation in the hard days.
Health, sustainability, good causes, new friendships, money savings and travelling. Do I really need to add something more? Let’s get started 😉
