Do you want to run with a prince? A Royal Run with a real, crown prince? In Denmark you can.

In May 2018, and in connection with his 50th birthday, HRH crown prince Frederik of Denmark organised the first Royal Run. The event was held in the 5 largest cities in Denmark, with the participation of 70.500 runners (including me!)

The event was a big success, and therefore Royal Run returned in 2019 and 2021. In 2022, the Royal Run took place on June 6 in the cities of Aalborg, Aarhus, Kolding, Næstved, Copenhagen / Frederiksberg and the island of Bornholm.

Runners in the streets of Copenhagen

Royal Run is an opportunity for Danes, foreigners living in Denmark or visiting Denmark to take part in this unique event. The main focus is to hopefully encourage people to be physically active on this day and in general.

The program of 2022 included a one mile (walk or run), 5K (walk or run), and a 10K. In the last case walk and run are in the same event, with a cut off time of 2,5h. There was a finisher medal for all distances, for each runner or walker.

The event is organized so that everyone can participate. Athletes or ambitious runners can compete and chase personal records. The rest of us can join the festive event in our own pace – and it is possible for whole families, elderly and those with a handicap to participate and enjoy the festive celebration in the streets.

The Crown Prince is protector of the organization behind the event, “Move for Life”. With this event he wants to engage directly with the Danes in an event open to everyone.
